Jerusalem boasts many homes of important influential people who worked in and contributed greatly to the city. In this series, get to know these personalities and their works by visiting their homes and seeing what is happening in the surrounding area today.
The Ginio family, one of the most well-known Sephardic families in Jerusalem, were one of the first to establish a winery in the Old City. Initially, they made wine in the basement of their home in the Jewish Quarter, and afterwards, they opened a store in the Jaffa Gate courtyard. Even later the family moved to Nahalat Shiv’a, to the building that today houses the restaurant Tmol Shilshom.
Wander through the Nahalat Shiv’a neighborhood, hear the story of the neighborhood’s founding, and learn about the Ginio family. Visit the Tmol Shilshom restaurant, and meet the owner who will tell us about another chapter in the house’s history and how it became a Jerusalem food, literature, and cultural institution for over 30 years. Includes coffee/soup.
