After the Six-Day War, the Jewish Quarter was an archaeological site as well as a residential quarter for Jews who returned, and those who decided to establish their homes there.
Take a peek at the excavations and the impressive discoveries, including the Broad Wall and the Cardo, that caused a dilemma about the Quarter’s appearance – how to balance new and old, and resolve the tension between development and preservation. Hear about the Quarter’s first settlement following the war and meet a talented painter who was the first child born in the Quarter. He will welcome us into his studio, and tell us about the living conditions during the first years of the Quarter’s restoration, and about the surprising discovery hidden under his house. Be hosted by a special woman who was born here before 1948 and returned in her adult life, and discuss the residents’ experience in the Quarter during those two different time periods.
