Behind the scenes tour of the renewal, restoration and new accessibility projects at the Tower of David Museum.

Take a peek behind the scenes of the renewal project of the Tower of David Museum, located inside the ancient Jerusalem Citadel, next to Jaffa Gate.

Tour the site and join a discussion about the dilemmas that arise while working on a significant historical building, balancing preservation with the need for renewal of the museum and accessibility for all.

How do you adapt ancient spaces for a modern exhibit that includes a wealth of technology?  What is required in order to provide access to a historical building, a fortress thousands of years old? And what discoveries were found during the course of the renewed archaeological excavation in the citadel?

Important: All tour participants must wear closed, comfortable shoes

All this and more, in a new tour and for a limited time only!

The Tower of David Museum is in the midst of an exciting, historic process of renewal of the museum, preservation of the citadel, and accessibility for people with disabilities. The museum’s permanent exhibit is closed but the Tower of David is open to visitors with a variety of tour routes, quality content, games, cultural events and, of course, the Night Experiences presented in the open air and screened throughout the year. The Museum is open 6 days a week from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm (closed to the public on Sundays - open by advance registration).
The new exhibit will open during the course of 2022.

The renewal and conservation project is generously supported by Dame Vivien Duffield and the Clore Israel Foundation, and with the support of the Patrick and Lina Drahi Foundation, the Jerusalem Municipality, the Ministry of Jerusalem and Heritage, the Ministry of Tourism, the American Friends of Museums in Israel, and Keren HaYesod.
