Russia was one of the countries that had a significant impact on Jerusalem in the 19th century as part of the process of the arrival of the Great Powers. Russia’s extensive religious and political activity started in 1860 with the purchase of land, including the “Russian Compound”. They called the compound “New Jerusalem” and built a church, hostel, hospital, consul and other structures.
Learn about the coming of the Russians to Jerusalem, hear about pilgrimage and land purchase, and discuss the development of the complex since the 19th century until today. Visit the Holy Trinity Cathedral, Sergei’s Courtyard, and more.
Tour includes entry to the church, please dress modestly (no sleeveless shirts or shorts) | No entry to the church with weapons.
