The tour examines the topic of internal boundaries that were created within the city of Jerusalem, especially in the first half of the 13th century. At that time, Christian settlement patterns changed in Jerusalem and most residents chose to concentrate in the Christian Quarter, near the Church of the Holy Sepulcher and the city’s Citadel.
What happened in the eastern section of the city, near the Temple Mount and its sites, the Dome of the Rock and al-Aqsa? How did the members of the Templar order respond to the change? And how did they interact with the members of the Teutonic Order, if at all, who symbolically controlled the German church? Tour the eastern section of the Crusader city near the Templar sites, observe the Temple Mount, and visit the German sites in the Jewish Quarter of today. Enter the Church of St. John in the Armenian Quarter, and hear about the fate of the Crusaders in Jerusalem in 1244.
Meeting point: Tower of David Jerusalem Museum, entrance pavilion, next to Mamilla Rd.
