Tour in the Old City focusing on Helena and her visit to Jerusalem

In the 4th century, Helena, mother of Constantine the Great,  arrived in Jerusalem.  She resided in Jerusalem for a few years and built a string of churches in the city.  Her goal to identify the place where Jesus was crucified, and to commemorate other places connected to his life began to transform Jerusalem into a center of pilgrimage for Christian believers.  During those same years, Christian holiday traditions were established in the city and continue to be celebrated until today.

On this tour we will visit the Church of the Holy Sepulcher and the Cardo, among other sites, to understand the personality of St. Helena and the traditions she started which continue to influence the geography and Christian culture of the city.

*Please arrive without weapons and modestly dressed (no sleeveless shirts or shorts).
