    The Austro-Hungarian Empire was among the various empires active in 19th-century Jerusalem when emperors, nobles, scholars, and adventurers – all came to Jerusalem. Institutions were established in the city ushering in modernity and efficiency, such as the Austrian Posta<\/em> (post office).<\/p>

    We\u2019ll go on a tour in the footsteps of the Austrians and the institutions they founded in the city including notable figures from the community who were active in Jerusalem, and the Austrian Jewish subjects in the Jewish Quarter.<\/p>

    We\u2019ll also hear about Emperor Franz Joseph\u2019s visit, learn about the original model of Jerusalem created by Stephan Ill\u00e9s, see the Austrian post office building, explore sites in the Jewish Quarter connected to Austrian Jewish subjects, and tell the famous legend about the donation for the dome of the Tiferet Yisrael Synagogue.<\/p>

    To conclude, we\u2019ll visit the Austrian Hospice<\/strong> and go up to its rooftop for a breathtaking view of the Old City.<\/p>

    Note:<\/strong> The tour includes entry to a church. Please dress modestly (no tank tops or shorts).<\/p>
