    On the busy Street of the Prophets, behind a high wall, lies a hidden world where monumental Jerusalem stone meets joy and grace. Here, within the Saint Joseph convent complex, the laughter of schoolchildren blends with the footsteps of nuns in long corridors with soaring ceilings, while birdsong drifts through a vast inner courtyard that holds generations of secrets.<\/p>

    During the tour we will explore the building\u2019s monumental architecture and find refuge in the silence of the large church, an island of calm amid the city\u2019s bustle. We will meet women who seem to have stepped out of a fairytale, yet are real and powerful: nuns who have come from across the world – from India and Burma, Germany, Italy, and even Iraq – to dedicate their lives to Jerusalem.<\/p>

    We will meet the sister who accompanies terminal patients in their final moments of grace, \u201cjust before the encounter with God, whatever that may be\u201d; and the legendary midwife who led women of all communities to cross the wall and give birth in a hospital in East Jerusalem. A journey between beginnings and endings, between the secular and the sacred, and among women who create a reality of compassion in the heart of the city.<\/p>
