The New Museum
Jerusalem’s most exciting renewal project in a generation is taking place now at the Tower of David Museum. After more than 30 years of presenting the full story of Jerusalem to millions of visitors from throughout the world, the Tower of David Museum is building new public areas, completely renewing the permanent exhibition, and upgrading the physical infrastructure of the site.
This exciting project is lead by architects, designers, archaeologists and curators who are creating a 21st century museum that guarantees accessibility for all while conserving this landmark heritage site in the heart of Jerusalem. One of the hallmarks of the project is the emphasis on sustainability and conservation to safeguard the natural ecosystem of one of the world’s oldest cities, Jerusalem.
Along with the renewal of the Tower of David, an ambitious urban revitalization project is being launched that will transform the area around the museum turning it into the cultural hub of an energized city. A new light rail stop and underground passages from nearby malls and parking areas will bring visitors directly to the new entrance building of the renewed museum.
The new museum will use video, sound and technology along with authentic artifacts and traditional displays to showcase the historic timeline of Jerusalem as well as to illuminate the themes of the eternal city – past, present and future.
The renewal team consists of eminent architects, engineers and designers including:
Chanan and Tal de Lange
The lead donor of the project is the Clore Israel Foundation who has supported the museum from its inception in 1989. The Jerusalem Municipality, the Ministry of Jerusalem and Heritage and the Ministry of Tourism also help support and finance the renewal and conservation project.
The renewal project provides an opportunity for people the world over to take an active part in the building and renewal of Jerusalem.
Donations are welcome and naming opportunities are still available.
