Outside the walls of the Old City, a complex was established in the 19th century through a French initiative, comprising a consulate, hospital, pilgrim hospice, and two large monasteries. On this tour, we will explore the site and learn about its founder, Count de Piellat, and the motivations behind the creation of this French-Catholic compound. We will discuss the battle over Notre Dame and “Operation Kedem” during the War of Independence, events that shaped the area as a border zone between 1948 and 1967.

At the Notre Dame hospice, we will visit a space recently opened to the public: the large “Pentecost Room,” featuring impressive wall paintings by artist Daniel Cariola. We will then ascend to the rooftop for one of the most beautiful panoramic views in Jerusalem. From there, we will walk along Mamilla Boulevard and visit the St. Vincent de Paul Monastery, which is usually closed to the public.

The tour includes entry into churches. Weapons are not permitted. Modest dress is required | Comfortable walking shoes are recommended | Please arrive at the meeting point approximately 10 minutes before the tour begins.
