Guide
Marie Shek, exhibition curator
The exhibition “Gold” presents works by 16 leading Israeli artists complemented by gold jewelry and archaeological artifacts discovered in excavations in Jerusalem. It creates a meeting between different ways in which human beings have given gold meaning. The exhibition invites us to consider gold not only as a precious and gleaming material, but also as something that carries meanings of holiness, power, beauty, memory, identity, belonging, and renewal.
What lies behind the curatorial choices in the exhibition? In the gallery talk, curator Marie Shek will share the working process, the selection of works, and the encounter between contemporary Israeli art and archaeological gold artifacts from Jerusalem. The talk will reveal the ideas and stories behind the exhibition, and the way in which a single material connects past and present.
