Hilula Celebration at the Tower with Tahrir

On Monday, May 4, we will gather at the Tower for a Lag BaOmer hilula with Tahrir 🔥

Lag BaOmer marks a transition from remembrance and mourning to a celebration of hope and optimism. The bonfires we light on this holiday remind us that even in the darkest moments in history, our spirit – faith, love, and hope – will always prevail.

Each year, we celebrate Tahrir’s traditional Mimouna and Selichot events at the Tower of David. Unfortunately, Home Front Command guidelines did not allow us to celebrate Mimouna at its usual time this year. In light of this, we are excited to launch a new event dedicated entirely to joy and celebration: Hilula at the Tower!

After a prolonged period of war and more than a month of staying indoors, we invite you to come together—to meet, celebrate, and sing piyyutim and songs as one. This is a moment to preserve tradition, strengthen solidarity and hope, and look ahead with faith toward a better future.

On the main stage, a special Andalusian–Middle Eastern ensemble will perform, led by vocalists Moshe Barsheshet and Daniel Saadon. Together, they will present a rich blend of traditional piyyutim passed down through generations, alongside a lively hafla of well-known songs and hits.

In the spirit of Lag BaOmer, the evening will open with study circles focused on the Zohar and Kabbalah, held throughout the Citadel. Throughout the evening, you are invited to wander through the stunning new galleries of the Tower of David Jerusalem Museum.

Tahrir is a traveling cultural institution and a platform for artistic encounter and shared experience, founded a decade ago in Jerusalem’s Mahane Yehuda Market. Since its inception, it has become a hub for diverse expressions of Mizrahi culture—from the ancient Sephardic piyyut tradition to contemporary multidisciplinary creation. Tahrir fosters artistic development and connects creative practice with social change through music and art.
