Hanukkah at the Tower of David

Scavenger hunt at the Citadel, tours in the footsteps of the Hasmoneans, costumes and creative projects for the whole family.

This Hanukkah we will meet at the Tower for a week full of activities for the entire family: navigation games and quests in the Citadel and the museum galleries, tours focusing on the Hasmoneans and the Hanukkah story, and a station with costumes and creative projects.

From 10:00am-4:00pm, every day during Hanukkah

Entrance for the families of those serving in reserve duty is free of charge.

What’s on the schedule?

Tour in the Citadel focusing on the Hasmoneans and the Hanukkah story

Remains of the Hasmonean central fortification in Jerusalem are located within the Citadel of the Tower of David. On the tour you will see the towers and the walls built by the Hasmoneans in the Citadel courtyard and the ballista pit containing the Greek’s ammunition, tour the new Museum galleries related to the menorah and the Hanukkah story, and finish at an observation point over the Old City

Tour times: 10:30am, 12:30pm, 2:30pm

Scavenger hunt at the Museum – Navigation game and quests in the Citadel courtyard

Family navigation game and quests in the Citadel courtyard. The entire family will receive a kit with challenges and clues and navigate through the Citadel spaces, the galleries, and the moat until you reach the prize: a Hanukkah treasure.

Game starts every half hour
Activity length: 1 hour approx.

Besides the tours and games, during museum operating hours there will be a station available with costumes and creative projects.

The event will be held under the directives of the Home Front Command. There are protected spaces in the Citadel. Entry to the event through the Museum’s new entrance pavilion located next to Mamilla Square.
