Hanukkah of light and butterflies at the Tower of David 🦋✨

Join us for a wonderful Hanukkah event for the family inspired by the exhibit “On the Other Side” by artist Zadok Ben-David and the Museum’s permanent exhibition.
What does it include?  Story theater in the exhibit space, creating magical butterflies, treasure hunt in the Citadel spaces, tours about the Hasmoneans and more surprises!

Activities:

Treasure in the Museum:  Game of navigation and group challenges in the Citadel spaces.  Every family receives a kit with challenges and riddles and navigates the Citadel spaces, the galleries and the moat until they find the treasure: a Hanukkah treasure!
For families with children ages 6-14.
Game starts every half hour, from 10:00am. Last start time: 3:00pm.
Activity length: 1 hr – 1 hr 30 min
Starting station: Olive tree

“Journey for Self-discovery” – story theater at the exhibit “On the Other Side”: original production for the exhibit space.  The play follows the magical world of the butterfly.  Dive into the inner world of the children participating and discover the similarities between our journeys and those of butterflies on the path of self-discovery.  Actor:  Noam Amit.  Authors and Editors: Noam Amit and Shay Friedman.
Performance for children ages 6-10.  No entry for children under 3.
Performance length: 25 mins.  Entry on the basis of available space.
Performance times:  11:00am, 12:00pm, 2:00pm, 3:00pm

Creating with Butterflies:  Creativity station based on the exhibit “On the Other Side”.  You are invited to create a tapestry of magical butterflies, to craft delicate wire butterfly sculptures, or to create a butterfly window art project to take home and put in your bedroom window.
Appropriate for children ages 3-14.  Choose the appropriate activity based on the child’s age.
Time:  10:00am-4:00pm
Location:  Entrance pavilion

Tour in the Citadel about the Hasmoneans and the story of Hanukkah:  Remains of the Hasmoneans’ main fortification in Jerusalem are found here, at the Citadel of the Tower of David.  On the tour see the towers and the walls built by the Hasmoneans in the courtyard of the Citadel and the collection of sling balls that were used to fight the Greeks. Visit the new Museum galleries featuring menorahs and connect to the story of Hanukkah.
Appropriate for ages 6 and up.
Tour length: 40 mins
Tour leaves every half hour.  First tour at 10:00am, last tour at 3:30pm.

Activity recommended for children ages 6-14.
Children under age 6 can enjoy the creativity station, the costume station and wandering the galleries of the Museum.
