Guide
Dr. Itai Gat
The Rockefeller Museum is an architectural marvel of historical and geopolitical significance, and an impressive example of a museum frozen in time since the 1930s. During the tour, we will explore the story of the museum’s establishment and the colorful figures involved in its creation. We will visit the galleries and the cloister, become acquainted with key artifacts that form the foundation of archaeological research in the Land of Israel, and examine the close relationship between politics and science. At St. Paul’s Hostel (the Schmidt Girls’ School), we will discover another architectural gem and learn about the zoological museum founded there by Father Schmitz in 1908. We will also view objects that served Kaiser Wilhelm II during his visit to Jerusalem in 1898.
