From the end of the War of Independence to the Six-Day War, the Old City was under Jordanian rule—and the city was anything but frozen in time. The Citadel returned to military use, a refugee camp was established in the Jewish Quarter, new roads were paved and ancient gates expanded, the Dome of the Rock underwent a major restoration, the King of Morocco visited and was hosted in the long-neglected Mughrabi Quarter, and even the Pope paid a groundbreaking and historic visit.

Join us for a close look at a brief yet formative chapter in the city’s history – one whose legacy remains visible to this day.

Meeting point: Angelina Drahi Entrance Pavilion, western entrance to the Tower of David, across from Mamilla
End point: Jewish Quarter
