What is a Khachkar? Who were Jacob the Small and Jacob the Great? And what happened during the Armenian Genocide?

We will embark on a journey to discover the Armenians in Jerusalem – a unique and usually reclusive community, and the first to adopt Christianity. On this tour within the walls of the Armenian Quarter, we will discuss the long-standing presence of Armenians in the Holy Land and the challenges the community faces in Jerusalem today.

We will enter the new museum and view the magnificent Bird Mosaic from the Byzantine period, visit the main memorial for the Armenian Genocide located in the courtyard of the seminary for priests, meet a representative of the community who will take us into one of Jerusalem’s most important libraries – home to ancient manuscripts and rare books – and conclude at the Cathedral of St. James.

The tour includes entry to the Armenian Monastery compound. Please dress modestly (no tank tops or shorts).

Meeting and ending point: Jaffa Gate
