Camping at the Citadel

Come experience Jerusalem as you’ve never experienced it before. A night of family camping under the sky, in the heart of the ancient Tower of David Citadel!

A unique Jerusalem experience for families who love nature, history and adventure in the most special place in Israel. A magical sunset on the Citadel’s walls, a once-in-a-lifetime sunrise from the breathtaking observation point, and a Museum that stands at your service throughout an entire night!

Ticket includes:

• Magical accommodations among the ancient stone walls, a tent, and mattresses
• Sumptuous hamburger meal (vegetarian or vegan option available), including french fries, salads, and soft drink
• Rich, tasty breakfast
• Coffee and tea station (also hot chocolate) available throughout your stay
• Sunrise on the breathtaking observation point from the top of the Tower with tea and cookies
• Guided activities for the entire family: sunset tour, activities for children, scavenger hunt in the Citadel, and more
• Bonfire and marshmallows
• Spectacular viewing of the Night Experience on the walls of the Citadel
• And even free parking for you at the nearby Karta parking lot!

More details:

• Check-in on Thursday at 5:00pm, and check-out on Friday at 11:00am. You are invited to stay at the Museum and discover the galleries and exhibits until Friday’s closing time at 3:00pm.
• You need to bring: clothes for Friday, toiletries, hat for the morning, sheets, curious nature to meet new people and experience an awesome, fun family outing. And that’s it!
• Families of 7 people or more need to order 2 or more tents.
• Children until age 2 are free of charge. If you need a mattress for them, make a note on the registration form (note: at most, 6 mattresses fit in the tent)
• If you have musical instrument, you are invited to bring it 🙂
• You may not bring mattresses and tents from home.
• There are no showers available. There are restrooms next to the sleeping area that will be open throughout the night.
• Food: Vegetarian/Vegan options are available. Please note your request at the time of reservation. All food offered as part of the camping experience is kosher.
• We protect the environment! Please bring dishes for every participant (plates, silverware, and multi-use cups). For those who observe kashrut, bring 2 sets – dairy and meat. We will provide sponges and dish soap.
• Parking at the Karta parking lot – a 2-minute walk from the Tower. When you check-out, our guide will give you a voucher for parking.
• Camping at the Tower is appropriate for all ages. Guided activities are appropriate for children ages 4-14 (in groups according to age), but younger children will also enjoy them. In addition to the activities, you can enjoy a bonfire and marshmallows in the Citadel’s moat. The Night Experiences are recommended for ages 6 and up.

Thursday:

5:00pm Arrival at the Citadel, tent assignments, coffee and orientation
6:00-8:00pm Sunset tour and games in the Citadel’s galleries
8:00-9:00pm Dinner and campfire with marshmallows in the Citadel’s moat
9:00pm Night Experience viewing
10:00-11:00pm Night activities

Friday:

5:30am Wake up for sunrise on the observation point for those who are interested. Tea and cookies for the early-risers!
8:00am Breakfast
9:00-11:00am Secrets of the Citadel – scavenger hunt
11:00am Check out and summary
You are welcome to stay in the Museum and wander the galleries and the Citadel spaces until closing time at 3:00pm.
