The poet and writer Yitzhak Shalev lived most of his life in Jerusalem—teaching, writing, and describing it with deep love and feeling, to the extent that he asked for the words “Servant of this city” to be inscribed on his grave. He vividly captured the city’s character and, during the years of a divided Jerusalem, wrote more than any other about longing, yearning, and the dream of reunification.
On this tour, we move between the biographical and the literary of this important figure—through the stations of his life, events, and places in the city about which he wrote. We will visit his home, his school, and encounter both the divided and reunited Jerusalem through its sites and stories.
Meeting Point: Kikar HaHatulot
End Point: Tower of David Jerusalem Museum
The ticket price includes the performance “Singing Love in Jerusalem,” which will take place after the tour in the Citadel courtyard. Special guest: Shuli Natan.
