Who was Shota Rustaveli, and what brought him to the Monastery of the Cross? Are the Temple treasures really hidden within its chambers? Since when, and why, has the Greek flag flown over this Georgian monastery? And what is the story behind the remarkable tree with its three different treetops?
Tour the Monastery of the Cross and its church and see the ancient mosaics and wall paintings, the icon of Saint Nino, and the murals depicting the extraordinary history of the rare tree. Continue a short distance up the Valley of the Cross, where we will tell the story of the airfield that once operated there and its commander, Meir Tobianski, as well as the story of Zahara Levitov, the first female pilot in the Israeli Air Force, whose aircraft crashed in the valley during the War of Independence.
The tour includes entry into churches. Weapons are not permitted inside. Please arrive dressed modestly, with shoulders and knees covered.
Meeting point: The intersection of Chaim Hazaz Street and Rabbi Herzog Street.
End Point: Sacher Park
Advanced registration required | Number of spaces is limited
